After over a week in intensive care, Brooke finally decided it was time to come home.
So we grabbed our girl and a box of Japanese oranges to celebrate that she arrived home!
Brooke was so happy to be home, that she never wanted to go back. Below (if you can find her) she is hiding from her check up. She likes to use camouflage, motionlessness, and staying low to the ground to remain invisible … unfortunately she’s got that black head of hair that gives her away …
For Christmas Eve we went to our friends house who just had twins (Ryan and Jo). They let Brooke try out all her friends little swings and cribs. Brooke loved that everything in the house vibrates (except the dog, but he licks so he makes up for it)
Ryan and Jo’s twins are on opposite sleeping schedules, so while one sleeps the other needs feeding, changing and cuddles. Here, they grab a rare spare moment to smile for the camera and wolf down some food. No one knows when or if mom or dad ever sleeps!
The Big Events
B A T H T I M E
Brooke had her first bath at home. Surprisingly, she didn’t scream! She actually loves her baths now! Mommy has tastefully placed her hand so as to keep this blog family friendly.
Once bathtime is over she gets wrapped up in a hooded blanket … seriously, a hooded blanket? Back when I was a kid we never had … oh no … I’m already sounding like a father.

Brooke decided she wanted to experience the great outdoors. So grandma saddled her up and off we went.
Brooke loved it. It was –2 so we dressed her her for the weather …
… but she thought the outfit made her look fat, and so she didn’t want to be seen in it in public and let us know.
Eating and Sleeping
Brooke at @ 3:30 AM: “It smells like dad, it feels like dad, but he looks like he was bitten by a zombie! Maybe if I cover my eyes I can still pretend its my handsome father and keep crying for him – he thinks my cry is really cute.”
When all else fails there is only one sure way to get Brooke to sleep - be on mom’s tummy.
Mystery Box
We got a mystery box in the mail. All day Kent was trying to figure out who sent it based on an analysis of the handwriting. Kara arrived home and turned the box on its side and found the return address! Doh! It was a box of lovely presents from Dustin and Elysha.
At first we thought they were receiving blankets. Then we realized they were actually hijabs to cover the faces of the women in the presence of the men!

She had her weigh-in and she is officially exactly on target for weight gain! It will still be a while before she is as big as daddy though.
In Praise of Kara
Honestly, after 36 hours of labour, a week of travelling to the intensive care unit every three hours – Kara continued to show amazing strength.
She has cooked dinners, hosted evenings, even thrown parties! What a lady! What a mom! What a wife! And what awesome friends!

Kent’s mom and dad made it out see Brooke.
Kara’s mom also made it up. Staying in the house she got to see Brooke’s screams and coos!
Grandparents we very delighted to spend any time with their granddaughter.
Brooke just loves her grandparents. Everything is so peaceful.
